Back in 2001, home computers were only just becoming powerful enough to do video editing on and digital video cameras were only just becoming cheap enough to be in the reach of the home user. I was in a fortunate position to have my hands on both a PC and a digital camcorder. Although the video and audio quality of the camera was poor by todays standard and even the cheapest of computers these days are many times more powerful, they were both high spec for their time and I decided to push the boat out and try my hand at creating a film.
Before long I had created a series of short star wars-like 'lightsaber fight' films with my friends. I was never satisfied with any of these creations and I wanted to try something more ambitious. On June 8th 2002, we started to film what would become "Obliteration". The original project was just too ambitious for a group of inexperienced and disorganised youngsters. I had to change the story several times to compensate for some members of the team who proved to be rather unreliable and generally apathetic towards the project. Some of the original cast members didn't turn up for filming several times and this resulted in delays and almost caused the cancellation of the film entirely. One of the most damaging incidents was when one of the original actors who was originally playing the lead role, failed to show up several times. The film was saved when Matt Morrissey joined the team and the "Matt Windu" character was introduced to replace one of the main characters.
In spite of all the setbacks, I worked tirelessly and did everything I could to fill in as many gaps in the film that I could. 8 month's later the film was completed.
What you see is the result of many hours of hard work and I hope you enjoy it.
